Margaret (Peg) Hallihan of Scituate died Friday August 11, 2017 at the age of 95. Peg is survived by her son Ian Hallihan of Merrimack NH and her granddaughter Kerri Hallihan of Marshfield. Her husband, Cornelius Hallihan, passed away in 1987.

Peg was a woman who worked hard her whole life and was very successful at whatever challenge she faced. Moving from Ireland to England after WWII, she and her husband Neil found work and secured a house while also raising a young child. Peg and Neil also provided a home for her younger sisters, as they followed her to London.

A series of events led to their eventual passage to America with the family sailing on the USS United States to start life all over again. Once again, she and Neil were successful in grounding the family quickly. It was a hard life but she fought it always with a smile and a great attitude.

Peg held many roles through the years. She was a teacher's aid at St. Benedict's in Somerville for a number of years and helped struggling students meet with success. Peg was a professional seamstress and made many brides happy with her talent. She was also a great cook, treating friends and family to her boiled dinners and popular meatballs.

Peg and Neil retired to Scituate in early 1980, appreciating the Irish Riviera for its beauty and seaside charm. Peg became very involved in the community, especially after Neil's death in 1987. She volunteered at the Scituate Senior Center for many years. All who met her appreciated her sense of humor, kindness, creativity, and charm. She had such passion in unselfishly helping everyone she met and always made sure family came first. Visitors always looked forward to their time at her beloved Scituate home.

Visitation will take place Thursday August 17 from 4:00-8:00pm at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, Scituate. Funeral Mass will be Friday August 18 at St. Mary of the Nativity Church, Scituate at 10:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the upcoming Scituate Senior Center, as Peg worked tirelessly for years to fundraise for a new senior center and would be so happy to know a new one is in the works. To donate in her name, you may write a check to the Scituate Council on Aging and mail it to:
